Angela Merkel and Boris Johnson against Russia’s return to the G7
Angela Merkel at a press conference with the head of the British government Boris Johnson discussed the possibility of reunification of the G8. However, the leaders of the countries opposed Russia’s return to the G7. Earlier, President Donald Trump expressed his desire to return Moscow to the international group.
Angela Merkel reminded that Russia was expelled from the club because of the tension of the situation in Ukraine, so the reconstruction of the G8, according to her, will be possible only if significant progress is made in the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
Boris Johnson agreed with Angela Merkel and noted that “the case for Russia’s return to the G7 has yet to be found.” “As for the issue of Russia’s reintegration into the G7, I would like to say that given the use of chemical weapons on British soil in Salisbury and the ongoing civil war and hostilities in Ukraine, as well as the provocations that Russia has I have to say that I fully agree with the German Chancellor,” he said.
At the moment, the idea of the U.S. president was supported only by French President Emmanuel Macron.
