Kentaro Iwata, one of Japan’s leading physicians, suggested that the Tokyo Summer Olympics couldn’t take place because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Games were originally supposed to be held in July-August 2020, but they were postponed to the same dates in 2021.
“First, Japan must defeat the coronavirus; second, the virus must be suppressed in other countries. The first condition could be met by next year. The second condition? I am very pessimistic about this.
There are a lot of people from different countries participating in the Olympics, which does not very well meet the conditions in which we are now and will most likely continue to be next year. I think this withdrawal from the Olympics is the most likely scenario at the moment,” the expert said.
