This will be the first time Apple will move from Lightning to USB Type-C outside the iPad Pro range. Perhaps the iPhone is in line
Now Apple is working not only on the new generation of iPhone but also on an update to the iPad line. In the near future, we will see the new model iPad Air and the long-awaited sequel to the iPad mini. And the upcoming iPad Air 4 will be the first tablet to feature a USB Type-C port in the series. This was reported by sources in the supply chain, to which the Macotakara blog refers.
According to sources, the fourth-generation iPad Air will be equipped with a USB Type-C port, while the new model iPad mini will retain its original Lightning connector. It is noted that the new iPad Air can be based on the 11-inch iPad Pro. However, the sources did not reveal the details. We can only assume that this means the next-generation iPad Air will inherit not only the iPad Pro’s port but also its thin-frame display at the edges.
The Chinese supplier says the fourth-generation iPad Air will have a USB Type-C connector, while the 8.5-inch iPad mini will have a Lightning connector. Since iPad Air third generation was designed based on the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, the fourth-generation iPad Air can be built on the 11-inch first-generation iPad Pro with back camera impairments,” Macotakara said.
Recently, authoritative analyst Ming-Chi Kuo announced that the new 10.8-inch iPad will be released in the second half of 2020 and the 9-inch iPad mini will debut in the first half of 2021. According to the analyst, the new iPad will bet on an affordable price and fast processors, similar to the iPhone SE released in April.
