CNN: Trump may appoint Pompeo as national security adviser
The channel notes that it is not yet clear whether “how seriously this possibility is being considered”
U.S. President Donald Trump is considering appointing incumbent Secretary of State Michael Pompeo as his national security aide, in which case he will hold both positions at the same time. This was reported on Wednesday by CNN.
According to his sources, “Trump is discussing this possibility with other administration officials.” As the TV channel notes, it is not yet clear whether “how seriously this possibility is being considered”.
According to the TV channel, the last time the same person held both positions was about 50 years ago. Henry Kissinger was secretary of state and assistant to the President of the United States for national security for about two years.
Trump tweeted Tuesday that he had dismissed his former national security aide, John Bolton.
The U.S. leader said Wednesday that he is considering five candidates for the post. Trump did not name them.
