U.S. President Donald Trump has said he plans to impose additional sanctions on Iran within the next 48 hours.
This is reported by Bloomberg.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has already been instructed.
At the same time, Trump stressed that “there is no talk of war with Iran, but there are many other options to put pressure on it.”
The US president’s statement came amid a scandal following an attack on the oil facilities of Saudi national oil company Aramco. The strike halved Saudi Arabia’s oil production, taking several days to restore it to its fullest. On September 17, the head of the U.S. State Department Michael Pompeo flew to Riyadh to consult with the Saudi side.
Although Yemen’s Ansar Alla (Houthi) group, which is fighting the Saudi-led coalition, initially claimed responsibility for the strike, Riyadh later said the strike could have been backed by Iran.
Meanwhile, Tehran denies involvement in the attack, calling the accusations against it a “big lie.”
