Japanese soldiers discovered an unknown submarine in the Amami Oshima area in the south of the country. This was reported in the Ministry of Defense of Japan.
“In the evening, June 18, a destroyer and a patrol aircraft of Maritime Self-Defense Forces noticed a submarine, which was heading west, in the contiguous area off Amami Oshima Island,” reads the report.
The agency added that on Saturday morning, June 20, the same submarine was detected to the west of Yokoate Island outside the contiguous zone.
Minister of Defense Taro Kono ordered to do everything possible to “maintain vigilance and gather information”.
